Tutoring session – tutee: Je-won Lee, Thursday 9/10, 0800-0900hrs, Zoom.

Covered: getting to know and speaking; determining levels; pronunciation, new vocabulary.

 

This meet was good.  I think my tutee has to be quiet because of the hour; he uses an earbud-mic that he pulls up to his mouth while tucking his chin down.  But still, he has good pronunciation and I can see he’s interested.  I used a variety of questions from ESLPDF.com with simpler things such as talking about what we do in our general day, and from this it turned into a bit of point at and name, which I had him repeat.  I screen shared more than I wanted to.  I need to get a feel at how well he can speak, and how loud he can get, so that we may converse more to what he seeks to learn.

CP 10/9/20

Today I met with Marcia. She talked about how she is working on her applications for different graduate schools. She talked about how she applied to some schools in South Korea and other schools in Canada. She mentioned how it is exhausting to work on all these applications. I then started discussing with her how I always wanted to have a deep southern accent. She was shocked to hear this since she has always tried to overcome her accent in English. I talked to her about how it makes you sound different and adds diversity. After that, we ended up talking about the TEFL internship program and how she thinks Dr. Rios is a really good teacher. She thinks that his ability to understand where the students are coming from really makes him an effective teacher.
