Conversation session – with: Hongru 3, Wednesday 9/23, 1800-1900hrs, Zoom.

Covered:  Hongru’s speaking presentation about TikTok

            My conversation partner has to give a talk and presentation to the CIES director.  As we went over it, I learned much about where, how, why and because of whom TikTok came about.  It tied into the Trump rally that was empty because the ticket-buyers were ghosting it; they wanted the seats empty.  The most amazing thing is that when this happened (in June) a billion people pledged to partake.  I noted to him that it would be a good addition to mention that that is at least three times the current population of the United States, and definitely many, many more times than just the voting-aged/voting population.  Anyway, I guided him a little in ideas about how to best ay it.  We laid down a decent opening and also listened to how he spoke about it and considered how it could be written.  He really just has to write it now and maybe voice it out to practice it, but it’s fairly done in other aspects.  This was my third and last required conversation with Hongru, but I told him to keep in touch and to email me if he needs to this term.

CP 10/9/20

Today I met with Marcia. She talked about how she is working on her applications for different graduate schools. She talked about how she applied to some schools in South Korea and other schools in Canada. She mentioned how it is exhausting to work on all these applications. I then started discussing with her how I always wanted to have a deep southern accent. She was shocked to hear this since she has always tried to overcome her accent in English. I talked to her about how it makes you sound different and adds diversity. After that, we ended up talking about the TEFL internship program and how she thinks Dr. Rios is a really good teacher. She thinks that his ability to understand where the students are coming from really makes him an effective teacher.
