Conversation session – with: Hongru 2, Friday 9/18, 1330-1530hrs, Zoom.

Covered:  Talked about a variety of things

            Today we started with a discussion about a talk he had to give in class and how it went.  Although I was able to give him some pointers, I think I learned more about from him on what is going on with our president in a single matter.  Hongru had me laughing so hard when I saw a picture of our president after an empty rally because a bunch of TikTok users ghost-purchased the seats.  And it seems that this might lead to a ban of the platform in the US, while China faces a similar issue with an app call WeChat.  We had a short talk about the change in Japanese leadership.  I talked to him about my studies and w talked a bit about archeology and pre-Colombian Florida.

CP 10/9/20

Today I met with Marcia. She talked about how she is working on her applications for different graduate schools. She talked about how she applied to some schools in South Korea and other schools in Canada. She mentioned how it is exhausting to work on all these applications. I then started discussing with her how I always wanted to have a deep southern accent. She was shocked to hear this since she has always tried to overcome her accent in English. I talked to her about how it makes you sound different and adds diversity. After that, we ended up talking about the TEFL internship program and how she thinks Dr. Rios is a really good teacher. She thinks that his ability to understand where the students are coming from really makes him an effective teacher.
