Tutoring session – tutee: Je-won Lee, Thursday 9/32, 0800-0900hrs, Zoom.
Covered: attempted assessment
For a first experience in tutoring someone in another language without knowing how much skill or experience they have with it I’d say I did well in maintaining momentum. However, that’s all. It seems that I over judged my tutees skill-level and decided to first plow along with some mid-teen level reading, somewhere along the intermediate or higher level. I noticed that there was no response so I toned it down, eventually trying to point out the I’s, and to explain the purpose and need of the self-reference in English communication, also you, we, me, us. I also tried some contractions. My tutee was very shy and almost non-responsive. We ended up going back to the readings. Next session I will start at the beginner level, because I think I confused the student.
