Tutoring session – tutee: Hang-ah 6, Wednesday 9/23, 1430-1530hrs, Zoom.

Covered:  reading, Star-Wars influence and other film, new vocab, concepts, etc.

            We continued reading as much as we could.  The new materials list at the end of this session filled up a page, as the previous sessions did also.  The books characters are starting to put out more cultural ideas in their conversations, and we had to go over several Star Wars character names.  I did not spend much time on that.  As we approached the last ten fifteen minutes of session the book changed perspective and got harder to read, due to the facts of life (we had a hard time because the book made us emotional for a few sentences of reading).  We only have two sessions left and about 150 pages to go.  We might not have the time to have extra sessions just for the book, as at our rate of ~12 pages per session will have us meeting for another 19 weeks.  But we know we will read it independently when we can.

CP 10/9/20

Today I met with Marcia. She talked about how she is working on her applications for different graduate schools. She talked about how she applied to some schools in South Korea and other schools in Canada. She mentioned how it is exhausting to work on all these applications. I then started discussing with her how I always wanted to have a deep southern accent. She was shocked to hear this since she has always tried to overcome her accent in English. I talked to her about how it makes you sound different and adds diversity. After that, we ended up talking about the TEFL internship program and how she thinks Dr. Rios is a really good teacher. She thinks that his ability to understand where the students are coming from really makes him an effective teacher.
