Covered:  Her experiences in studying in America and her outlook

            Today we just chatted.  We talked about how our classes are going, which meant full-time plus for her as a PhD seeking student.  Ouch!  We talked a bit about film and some American pieces.  We got stuck on how American film isn’t driven by forces of propaganda but is instead made by people who had the right to all the things it takes to allow a creative and well-built human to take shape.  We watched a few clips of Apollo 13 and got stuck on some of the scenes.  We then had a discussion about people like Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg and how they are some of the big names in American historical Drama.  We hit on a few concepts such as ‘clout’; but really, we just chatted.  She’s pretty cool.

CP 10/9/20

Today I met with Marcia. She talked about how she is working on her applications for different graduate schools. She talked about how she applied to some schools in South Korea and other schools in Canada. She mentioned how it is exhausting to work on all these applications. I then started discussing with her how I always wanted to have a deep southern accent. She was shocked to hear this since she has always tried to overcome her accent in English. I talked to her about how it makes you sound different and adds diversity. After that, we ended up talking about the TEFL internship program and how she thinks Dr. Rios is a really good teacher. She thinks that his ability to understand where the students are coming from really makes him an effective teacher.
