Conversation Partner – Hongru Lu, Thursday 9/9, 1700-1800hrs, Zoom.

Covered: introduction/first meet, needs and desires, experiences.

Today I met Hongru who is 26 and here to study English in preparation for his master’s degree studies.   We both talked a bit about our English learning experiences and also other language experiences; for example, he had visited Germany a couple of times in his past, and he also has a little knowledge of Japanese, so we had some things in common there.  He was aware of something that very few people in the US are aware of, that the Old World has had a huge impact on us here in the New World and that having knowledge of both helps you see and experience things a bit clearer than most others.  This surprised me about him, that he could tell there were differences of culture on either side of the Atlantic.  It seems we both enjoy trains, too.  We discussed food and it’s cost and quality differences between the US and Asia.  Somewhere along the conversation we did go over puns just like my previous tutoring session because the concept of puns was also new to him.  I look forward to having further conversations with him.
