TS 9/11/20

             Today I met with Hongru again. This session was a little rough due to technical issues with zoom. I decided since last week we did more of an intensive reading session that we would try to do some extensive reading. We read through an anime manga together and I would clarify words or phrases that he wasn’t aware of. When we finished reading, I wanted to show him that manga in video format that way he could also see and listening to the words as they play out in animation but there was a zoom error. As we closed Hongru wanted to provide a reading suggestion for next week which we will focus on. I’m going to spend some time trying to find more level-appropriate intensive reading for him to make sure he can really practice his vocab and reading.

    Yeah, his pronunciation from reading needs some work. I can understand him, but it took a bit of work. during my conversations with him we worked on his speaking presentation for the director.

CP 10/9/20

Today I met with Marcia. She talked about how she is working on her applications for different graduate schools. She talked about how she applied to some schools in South Korea and other schools in Canada. She mentioned how it is exhausting to work on all these applications. I then started discussing with her how I always wanted to have a deep southern accent. She was shocked to hear this since she has always tried to overcome her accent in English. I talked to her about how it makes you sound different and adds diversity. After that, we ended up talking about the TEFL internship program and how she thinks Dr. Rios is a really good teacher. She thinks that his ability to understand where the students are coming from really makes him an effective teacher.
