Conversation session – with: Qiaochu 3, Friday 9/25, 1300-1400hrs, Zoom.
Covered: Last meeting, chatted about stuff of all kinds.
This was my last conversation with Qiaochu and last of all my conversations. This was great and it reminded me of having a couple of pen-pals when I was a kid. This conversation went all over the place and I say again her English is great. We talked about our week. Then we got into TV Shows; seems we both watch some Korean and Japanese TV, especially the reality-comedy stuff. And we noted some characteristics of Asian television compared to American and western TV in general. She speaks a bit of Korean, too, and we talked about how there are family-like titles for non-family members as opposed to just having mister or ma’am. There are even titles for the siblings of your grandparents’ families instead of the once-removed, twice-removed cousins confusion. We talked about our will to learn other languages, we talked about food form other countries, we even talked about watermelons around the world. For some reason we went over stink-fruit for a while, learning there are at least five types with different names. And then we talked about why some grapes eaten in Asian countries don’t always have their skin eaten along with the grape as a whole. That one had baffled me, but it seems its based on the variant of grape being eaten. And that was our talk. All over the place.
