Tutoring session – tutee: Je-won 6, Thursday 10/8, 0800-0900hrs, Zoom.

Covered:  Advancing to more difficult language, responses; used NASA, YouTube

 

            I wanted to increase the challenge and determine his level a little better.  I decided to use lesser known words to add to sentences that followed last weeks Q & A format, so he had something to work with; the new stuff was an (i+1 and maybe + 1 more) kind of thing.  I used the local area and we ended up looking at Kennedy Space Center stuff.  From this we ended up looking at the shuttle and the Apollo Program, and eventually we ended up watching a couple of clips of Apollo 13.  I think the movie clips threw a wrench in the works, as the speaking was fast, technical and dramatic.  So, we ended up discussing career paths and I learned he doesn’t know what he wants to be yet, but that his parents are architects.  I might have that backwards though

CP 10/9/20

Today I met with Marcia. She talked about how she is working on her applications for different graduate schools. She talked about how she applied to some schools in South Korea and other schools in Canada. She mentioned how it is exhausting to work on all these applications. I then started discussing with her how I always wanted to have a deep southern accent. She was shocked to hear this since she has always tried to overcome her accent in English. I talked to her about how it makes you sound different and adds diversity. After that, we ended up talking about the TEFL internship program and how she thinks Dr. Rios is a really good teacher. She thinks that his ability to understand where the students are coming from really makes him an effective teacher.
