TS ABDULAZZIZ - October 2, 2020

Today we did more work on the TOEFL preparations. We worked through various listening and reading examples and discussed each. Abdulazziz has difficulty when words are linked in speaking and seems to struggle if the recording speaks too quickly. He has no problem with his reading and I have pinpointed the listening as more of an issue for him. To remedy this, we did several listening exercises. Furthermore, we discussed his plans for his career in order to get him speaking as well as listening. I wanted him to start thinking through what he was going to say while he was speaking. This proved to be difficult at first but with time he became much more confident and was able to convey his thoughts clearly. We then incorporated some of the lesson plans I had used with Sanghun in that, we discussed various topics. The discussion would start with me asking questions, Abdulazziz answering and me asking more questions getting him to elaborate on them. His speaking is definitely improving over time and his vocabulary is getting better. I have noticed that he is using far more low-frequency words and that's a great sign and indicator the the is getting more and more confident. I finished the lesson by asking Abdulazziz some questions about his culture and Saudi Arabia. I am truly enjoying this aspect of teaching students from other cultures, I have a lot of interest in them and this has been a great experience so far!
