TS - ABDULAZZIZ - September 25, 2020

We spent this class further preparing Abdulazziz for his TOEFL exam. He is now most concerned about TASK 3 in the integrated speaking section of the exam. I therefore found various exam online for him to work through. I administered each example as if we were in the exam. He took his time and answered the speaking questions. He does an excellent job of summarizing the written summary but more difficulty with his listening comprehension. We listened to the recordings and pin pointed where his issues were. He needed more clarification about vocabulary than I had expected. To remedy this, we looked up vocabulary that would be relevant to this particular section of the exam and worked through some. When it came to evaluating his performance, my role was to pick apart his answers and talk to him about a strategy when preparing to answer the questions. from there, we worked through more examples which seemed more difficult for him. We also continued brainstorming for his personal statement which was helpful for him

CP 10/9/20

Today I met with Marcia. She talked about how she is working on her applications for different graduate schools. She talked about how she applied to some schools in South Korea and other schools in Canada. She mentioned how it is exhausting to work on all these applications. I then started discussing with her how I always wanted to have a deep southern accent. She was shocked to hear this since she has always tried to overcome her accent in English. I talked to her about how it makes you sound different and adds diversity. After that, we ended up talking about the TEFL internship program and how she thinks Dr. Rios is a really good teacher. She thinks that his ability to understand where the students are coming from really makes him an effective teacher.
