TS - SANGHUN - October 2, 2020
As we have been doing all along, Sanghun spoke about his prepared topic to start the class. This serves as a warm up for him to get comfortable. He prepares a short written text that he refers to throughout the monologue. After 3 or 4 minutes the monologue turns to a dialogue and I ask him to elaborate and engage more. Again, he seems to be getting better each lesson with this part of the practice. We then moved on to talking about transition words (I noticed he has been improving with these so I decided to give him more examples for us to incorporate in our conversations). This was hugely helpful and he immediately started using them in our dialogue. I feel like Sanghun is definitely improving his vocabulary (he may just feel more comfortable with me but regardless I see improvement over the several weeks we have been working together). We did some fun tongue twisters to break up the session and he really did enjoy these. The tongue twisters focused on the 'p' and the 'b' sounds. We also did one that incorporated the 'v' sounds. His tremendous improvement in pronunciation makes it clear to me that he has been working a lot on his own with minimal pairs. We finished the session by discussing South Korean beers and which ones he would recommend for me! I am learning a lot about South Korean culture from Sanghun and I really am enjoying my sessions with him, I feel like he is also enjoying the sessions because he seems far more open and relaxed when we converse.
