TS - Sanghun - September 23, 2020
Sanghun and I started the session with a conversation exercise. I proposed a scenario for him and gave him two minutes to prepare a response. As he spoke, I asked him to elaborate and asked various questions to check his full understanding of the topics. We discussed his research plans and what his professional goals were. We discussed his views on science and how he felt about academia in the United States. The conversation was long but very helpful and I actually learned a lot about South Korean culture and their educational system. We finished the lesson with some minimal pairings. As always, I had him use the minimal pairs in sentences and I can already see a huge improvement in his pronunciation of things. We finished the session by discussing his plans for the week and how things were going for him during the pandemic. Sanghun really wants to improve his conversational English and activities that allow him to do most of the talking have proven to be hugely beneficial in our progress. Going forward, I plan to do the same kind of activities day to day with some other things planned so as to not get bored! Today was a good lesson and I thoroughly enjoy watching and hearing his progress!
